In questi due anni non ho mai parlato di design sul mio blog. E non immaginavo certo di parlarne oggi, visto che come di consueto avevo in mente un post completamente diverso. Ma stamattina ho acceso il computer, ho aperto Facebook e ho detto ad alta voce: "WOW !" perché ho visto questo:

Realizzato da SOFTlab design studio di New York City per la collezione We Are Flowers della Galeria Melissa NYC, un giardino botanico pensile, un enorme baldacchino con migliaia di petali di fiori. La superficie è stata progettata appositamente ed a stata realizzata A MANO : una rete di Mylar fatta di oltre 4.000 pezzi alla quale sono attaccati più di 20.000 fiori traslucidi. Nonostante sia stata usata tecnologia digitale all'avanguardia per sviluppare questa istallazione, c'è qualcosa di incantevole, di magico in questa grande opera di design contemporaneo, che porta il visitatore in un colorato, gioioso e fiabesco "paese delle meraviglie". 

Created by SOFTlab design studio in New York City for the We Are Flowers collection of Galeria Melissa NYC, a hanging botanical garden, a huge canopy with thousands of flower petals. The surface has been specially designed and was built BY HAND: a net of over 4,000 pieces made ​​of Mylar to which are attached more than 20,000 translucent flowers.  Although there has been used cutting-edge digital technology to develop this installation, there is something enchanting, magical in this great work of contemporary design, which takes the visitor in a colorful, joyful and magical "wonderland".

Susi Kenna: Nail Art History in New York

Sono indubbiamente una appassionata di smalti di tutti i colori, anche dei più strani ma non sono una grande appassionata di Nail Art. La Nail Art mi piace soltanto o con una tema preciso oppure esagerata con disegni e smalti diversi su ogni unghia ed unghie lunghissime.
Susi Kenna, designer e fotografa di New York, ha centrato il bersaglio: negli ultimi due anni ha collaborato con le migliori nail artist della Grande Mela per riprodurre, sulle sue unghie, le opere di celebri pittori e di maestri dei graffiti. A volte capita che Susi si ispiri a una mostra in corso e che le sue unghie raccontino i quadri esposti. La sua Nail Art è impegnativa: servono tra le due e le cinque ore di lavoro, senza contare il tempo che Susi dedica alla ricerca degli artisti che meglio possono essere ammirati "in punta di dita".

No doubt that I'm a passionate of nail polish of all colors, even the most strange, but I'm not a huge fan of Nail Art. I only like Nail Art about a  specific theme or really exaggerated with different designs and nail polish on each nail and really long nails. 
Susi Kenna, designer and photographer from New York, has hit the target: in the last two years she collaborated with the best nail artists in the Big Apple to reproduce, on her nails, the works of famous painters and masters of graffiti. Sometimes it happens that Susi is inspired by an exhibition in progress and that her fingernails tell the paintings shown. Her nail art is time-consuming: between two and five hours of work, not counting the time that Susi dedicates to the research of the artists who best can be shown "on tip-finger-toe".

Premessa: Se non avessi conosciuto lei probabilmente non avrei aperto il blog !
La nostra storia è la prova che nell'era di Internet un'amicizia può nascere e crescere in rete. Un incontro casuale a San Gimignano, il seguirsi su Facebook, il contatto quotidiano in rete, l'importanza della presenza, di un "Mi piace", di un commento, di un complimento, di una parola di conforto. Il confronto quotidiano con la SUA grande creatività mi ha fatto riflettere fino ad arrivare alla conclusione che nella MIA vita lavorativa ma anche personale avevo sempre solo eseguito, non avevo mai creato qualcosa. 
Oggi Cassandra ed io siamo legate da una profonda Amicizia con la A maiuscola, caratterizzata da grande stima e grande affetto. 

I want to start by saying that if I had not known her probably I would not have created my blog ! 
Our story is the proof that in Internet era a friendship can be born and grow up "online". After a randon meeting in San Gimignano we follow each other on Facebook, our daily contact in the network, the importance of being there always present, the importance of a "Like", a comment, a compliment, a word of comfort. The daily confrontation with HER great creativity made ​​me think coming to the conlusion that in MY working life I had only ever carried out, I had never created anything.
Today, Cassandra and I are bound by a deep Friendship with a capital F, characterized by high esteem and great affection.

La biografia di Cassandra Juliette Wainhouse si legge come un romanzo moderno: nata in Francia, vive e lavora in Italia da trent'anni. Si è diplomata in Agricoltura Biodinamica in Inghilterra, ha studiato arte e grafica in Inghilterra, Francia e negli USA, si è diplomata in pedagogia Steineriana a Parigi. 
Nel 1991 si stabilisce a San Gimignano dove apre la propria galleria d'arte Atelier Novalis. 
Tra le sue attività più importanti ci sono l'illustrazione e la creazione di libri per l'infanzia e la pittura didattica e da tanti anni le proprie collezioni di quadri esposti in Italia e con grande successo soprattutto in Finlandia e negli USA.

The biography of Cassandra Juliette Wainhouse seems a modern novel: born in France, she lives and works in Italy since thirty years. She graduated in Biodynamic Agriculture  in England, she studied art and graphics in England, France and in the U.S., she graduated in Steiner pedagogy in Paris. In 1991 she moved to San Gimignano, where she opened her own art gallery Atelier Novalis. Among her most important activities are the illustration and the creation of children's books and educational didactic painting and since many years her collections of paintings exhibited in Italy and with great success especially in Finland and the U.S..

Negli ultimi due anni è stata impegnata maggiormente nelle sue collezioni "No Man's Land" sulla figura e sul nudo femminile e "Silence Spoken" sperimentando nuove tecniche di pittura e l'utilizzo di un mix di "media".

Over the past two years she has been mainly engaged in her collections "No Man's Land" on the figure and on the female nude and "Silence Spoken" experimenting with new techniques of painting and the use of "media" mix.

Ma non è tutto: Cassandra è una vera esplosione di creatività e così nel passato si sono aggiunte anche le ceramiche dipinte a mano e recentemente le borse che ogni donna vorrebbe avere, la collezione di SurvivalBAGS con tessuti dipinti appositamente ed interamente fatte a mano, l'autentico Made in Italy.

Stranamente e me ne rendo conto solo ora, pur essendo amiche, non parliamo quasi mai dei suoi quadri (parliamo di scarpe, quello si !).
Il mio concetto personale di arte è legato molto all'impatto visivo del "bello" e del "sorprendente". Le opere di Cassandra Juliette Wainhouse con questo forte legame all'esistenza ed alla natura rappresentano per me un'arte tangibile, comprensibile ed allo stesso tempo sorprendente: scoprire il rosso perfetto del melograno, la forma perfetta del limone, gli spazi scuri da interpretare nelle "Opere al Nero", osservare il gioioso utilizzo dei colori, dei materiali pregiati come le foglie di oro, argento e rame, del media mix.

My personal concept of art is very tied to the visual impact of  "beautiful" and "unexpected". The works of Cassandra Juliette Wainhouse with this strong bond to existence and to nature represent to me a tangible, understandable and at the same time unexpected art: discovering the perfect red of a pomegranate, the perfect form of a lemon, interpreting the dark spaces in "Opere al Nero", observing the joyous use of colors, of high-quality materials like gold, silver and copper leaves, of the media mix.

nature is the best inspiration !
