PANTONE Fashion Color Report 2015-2016

It's been more than one year since I published the last post. Good things and bad things happended. Sadisfactions and failures. Illusions and delusions. But that's life. So let's pretend that I wrote the last post just a few days ago and let's look to present and future.

Winter 2015/16 colors are a symphony of those delicate shades that bring us back in the 70s when colors drop out of the contrast between pastel and shock shades that characterized the 60s.

"Even though economy seems to be on the upswing, still there are those who are feeling insecure about significant world events, both politically and ecologically." Leatrice Eiseman said. "The Seventies were also a time when public was emerging from a recession in the early part of the decade. There also was a growing interest in the preservation of nature. Utilizing earth tones gives people a sense of rootedness and grounding, similar to what people were feeling the need for in the Seventies. The whole idea is that people are seeking some sense of balance. This palette is not pastels-heavy or brights-heavy, but it's reaching out and being a bit more experimental."

The scenario of colors completely changes in 2016: "Colors  this season transport us to a happier, sunnier place where we feel free to express a wittier version of our real selves." Eiseman declares.

Color of the year 2016 ? In one of her most famous quotes Audrey Hepburn declares: "I believe in pink ..." We will definitely do !

Design: We Are Flowers campaign by SOFTlab for Galeria Melissa NYC

“There are three responses to a piece of design – yes, no, and WOW ! Wow is the one to aim for.”
(cit. Milton Glaser)

In these two years I never wrote about design on my blog. And I certainly did not immagine writing about it today, as usual I had in mind a completely different post. But this morning I turned on the computer, I opened Facebook and I said out loud: "WOW !" because I saw this:

Created by SOFTlab design studio in New York City for the We Are Flowers collection of Galeria Melissa NYC, a hanging botanical garden, a huge canopy with thousands of flower petals. The surface has been specially designed and was built BY HAND: a net of over 4,000 pieces made of Mylar to which are attached more than 20,000 translucent flowers.  Although there has been used cutting-edge digital technology to develop this installation, there is something enchanting, magical in this great work of contemporary design, which takes the visitor in a colorful, joyful and magical "wonderland".
